This costumbrist novel set in the rural northern part of the Dominican Republic, the Cibao region, describes daily life and customs of the peasants there. Originally published in 1929. Pedro María Archambault (1862 -1944) was a historian, novelist, journalist and diplomat. He published Historia de la Restauración (1928).
