Summary: This paper argues that there is no country in Latin America where we can confidently say that income inequality improved during the 1990s. This fact is documented for the 15 countries where comparable household surveys are available. The paper seeks to draw conclusions from the statistics and compares Latin America's increase in inequality with that of developed countries and Eastern Europe.
